Encore! Theatre Arts ends each season with an awards banquet, The Rubye Awards. This formal event is held in the style of the Academy Awards. We recognize outstanding actors, voted upon by the Tulsa community. We also show our gratitude for our volunteers, donors, and sponsors who helped make our shows possible.
The Rubye Awards are named after Rubye Naomi Barker, grandmother of Artistic Director, Joshua Branson Barker. Rubye was a model and actress, and enjoyed attending Joshua's productions as he was growing up.
Rubye passed away in 2002, and Encore! Theatre Arts is proud to name their awards banquet after her. In every Encore! Theatre Arts production, Joshua includes at least one prop, costume, or set piece that belonged to Rubye.
The 2011 Rubye Awards were sponsored by Chimi's Mexican Restaurant and First Class Limousine. Three limousines escorted all the actors who were nominated for a Rubye Award. FOX23 News Anchor, Ron Terrell, hosted the evening. See below for the Rubye Award winners and for photos of the exciting evening!
